A week finally came where I have a lot to report.
It started slow, with lots of manual writing (character studies and story structure) but finally, on Thursday it was ‘revenge’ day. I wrote almost 3000 words for the short story I was working on.
Friday was also a very agitated day. I went to the post-office to send of “V.I.D.A.” for the 1st Literary Contest Book.It and on that same day (technically the next day), at 3.30 a.m., I finished the short story for anthology Lisboa Electropunk. It reached the 5935 word count (34914 types), which means I went to the limit!
I just couldn’t go to sleep without finishing it and it was also somewhere along the writing that I came up with th title “Electro-Dependência (Electro-Dependency)”.
This short-story was written in the 1st person POV present verb, which means I wound up breaking my self-made ‘promise’ never to write in that POV, back when I wrote “A Última Ceia (The Last Supper)”. Strangely enough “Electro-Dependência (Electro-Dependency)” came out much easier that its predecessor in the narrative style. Maybe it’s just something you need practice to make right.
The next day I reviewed the text and the anthology guidelines before sending it to a few sacrificial-lambs beta-readers (Thank you all who volunteered/submitted, your opinions were valuable). With all the reviews received, on Saturday I decided to make some changes to the text. Switched texts to different places, cut scenes, added details and in the end I sent the text to one lat beta-reader (Thank You!) for a final opinion.
The biggest problem with writing a short story for this anthology (or any other with guidelines so specific) is that, in case the story doesn’t get picked for publication it will be really hard to resubmit it to any other, due to its specificities.
But well, I’ll think of that if the time comes.
Once more I’d like to thank all the amazing beta-readers who helped me. One think I know: If two or more people point out the same thing, it’s because it needs to be changed (except when it’s a praise). Thank you all! 🙂
