Vale a pena?

Weekly 159
Many times I think about ceasing this weekly report. It’s either because it happens too often that I’ve very little to say, or because I can’t make this as dynamic as I’d like, or simply because I feel like giving up on everything (those moments when you think that nothing you did was worth anything; You know?).
But I have persisted and that’s why all the more often I think: why? But then I remember why I started this in 2008 and the doubts just vanish.
I’d like to be more eloquent and confident while saying that I’ll keep doing this, not as much for the readers (although I think of them), but because I know that I need this. I’ve said it many times, but I’ll say it again: I am a person who works best when she knows she has to report back to someone, even if only to herself. Knowing that every week I have to come here and talk about my literary progress makes it impossible for me to just idly sit around, because, come Mondays, I’ll want to shove my head in a hole if all I have to say is “I didn’t do anything!”.
This, happily, wasn’t the case for last week. But, as you’ve noticed by now, I had more than a few doubts plaguing me in regards to my dedication to this art, which brings me so much joy but also many doubts.
Is it worth it? I really believe it is, even when the result isn’t what we idealized.
The funniest thing in all of this is that this ‘talk’ (possibly repeated in one way or another, since I’ve been doing this for more than three years) does not come aboard because I received notice that my short-story, “Secrets and Impulses (Segredos e Impulsos)” was not selected for the anthology The Amazing Queer Literature (although I’m sad to know this, as expected).
No, this wasn’t what let me down, and I actually believe I’m becoming a little immune to rejections. It’s not lie they ever become easy, but maybe more bearable. (Or is it?!)
And since I’m on the topic of “Secrets and Impulses (Segredos e Impulsos)”, I’ll be giving it another revision, sending it to a few beta-readers and decide if I’ll save it for later submissions to other anthologies, or if I’ll post it here on the blog. I haven’t decided yet, but I’ll soon be informing you.
I have yet to start revising “Dragons and their Sacrifices”, to my great disappointment, but I’m sure it’s not caused by lack of will or determination and that will have to be good enough for now.
Yet, I did get ahead on the outline of “Wolf & Dragon” and the more I write with the detailed resume, the more I realized this story is enormous!
Possibly the result of my engagement to this project since 2001. When you think too long on something, it grows and grows and (guess what?) GROWS!
Finally I have to register here that on Saturday, May 5th, the 2nd encounter of Braga’s Reading Group took place, and the book discussed this time around was “The Cleft” by Doris Lessing.
The next meeting is scheduled for June 2nd and the book chosen was “Os Malaquias” by Andréa del Fuego. Join us!
And since we were on the subject, did anyone here get his/her short-story selected for The Amazing Queer Literature? And what about other anthologies, anyone has had any luck?
